Monthly Favourites: May

Another month already?? Seriously time has really been going by really fast...
I don't have a lot of favourites this month, since I've been MIA not only on the internet (youtube/blogging) but in real life as well. All I've been doing is homework and studying -- Universtiy summer courses are HARD CORE!

Face:
Studio Tech Cream Foundation (NC30):
I bought this several months ago and kind of ignored it when I got my tubes of Studio Sculpt foundation. Although I really like Studio Sculpt, I have come to realize (after revisiting it) that Studio Tech is truly my HG foundation... hey I guess my search is finally over!
Studio Tech is compact and convenient and it gives me the perfect coverage. I use my 109 brush to apply this foundation and I don't cover every inch of my face with it -- I concentrate most of the product in the middle of my face (T-Zone ish area) then buff outwards.
The reason why I love it so much? Not only does it give me just the right coverage and the illusion of flawless skin, but it looks great in pictures too!~ This might actually be a con for some but since it doesn't contain any SPF ingredients in it, my face doesn't cast a ghastly white mask when the ingredients reflect the flash in cameras.
Studio Sculpt DOES contain SPF(15) -- which is why even though it looks GREAT in person, in pictures, it looks like i'm not wearing the correct shade (even though I am).
Oh and the fact that it lasts all day/night for me is a major bonus as well =)

So Ceylon MSF:
I have really grown to LOVE MSFs and looking to/trying to collect them all as they come out... So Ceylon is a popular one and even though I've had it for quite some time now, I never really gave it much attention. Now that the summer months are approaching (and I absolutely hate tanning of any kind... real or fake), I need to give myself a glow that isn't too obvious or fake. So Ceylon is the perfect bronzing shade that really gives a beautiful sunkissed glow without it being a glitter bomb (as past MSFs have been).

Lips:
Florabundance Lipglass:

I got this one on a whim a couple of weeks ago (I know, I don't always post my hauls) and it's the perfect compliment to Creme d'nude (cremesheen) lipstick. It's super pale, so glopping a thick layer on would be a bad idea... but a light coat gives you such pretty, shiny and nude-ish lips ^^

eyes:
dipdown fluidline:

I wanted dipdown for a long time and I finally got it about a month ago (don't remember if I ended up hauling this). My initial intention for this purchase was for eyeliner, since sometimes I think black is too harsh for everyday... but then buzzfuzzbunny suggested that I can fill in my eyebrows with them! What a great idea! although I don't do it ALL the time since dipdown is a very rich chocolate brown colour, so I limit my use on the brows for night-time. During the days, I like to use my "quite natural" paintpot to fill in the brows...

Ardell Demi Wispies:
I LOVE THESE LASHES!!! I have always been more into the very cool, spikey and unnaturual looking false lashes, because they give a very dramatic look to your eyes... I've never been drawn to the more "nautral" looking lashes, just because they don't look as pretty in the packaging. Desmi Wispies are on the natural side, but my gosh do they look great on! I used to only wear lashes on special occasions, but with demi wispies I can wear them everyday without being too over the top -- LOVE~

Colour Craft Collection

Released July 9.09
I got this image from http://www.pursebuzz.com/

The Colour Craft collection is a series of mineralized products including eyeshadow and MSFs.

Here are the six MSFs that will be released with the collection (which I'm almost positive I will be getting all of) *drool*

Haul: Red Earth

Left to Right: Secret Potion in Thriller (02), Bronzing Potion in Summer Love (1), Bronzing Potion in Beach Party (2), bag that comes with kabuki and of course the kabuki at the bottom.

So I went to this Esprit Warehouse-type sale on the west end of the city that had Esprit clothing and accesories and Lacoste shoes -- no invitation required, so if you ladies are interested there are only TWO DAYS left of the sale!

Also at the sale was Red Earth cosmetics for sooooo cheap!!! I used to LOVE this brand before it was discontinued (a very long time ago)... it was then revived a couple years ago and you can now find this brand at pharma plus/rexall stores.

Do the "potions" remind you of anything? I was ecsatic when I used the testers at the sale.. they're DUPES of the new mac Lustre Drops... and they were only $3 each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The kabuki is retailed at $45CAD (rexall) and they had it for only $5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this kabuki is comparable to the MAC 182 and I bought extras to give to you guys... giveaways coming up soon!!!

Top: Thriller (02): dupe for Pink Rebel Lustre Drops, Summer Love, Beach Party
Bottom: Mac Luster Drops in Sun Rush and Bronze Hero

pretty close huh??

The title says it all... I'll be MIA for the next few days... I'll try to sneak in a post or two when I feel like procrastinating... but in the meantime... it's STUDY STUDY STUDY =(

Review: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Nude Attitude

I quite like this lipstick a lot although I wouldn't call it a matte forumla (if one were to compare it with MAC lipstick formulas). The consistancy and wear of this lipstick is more of a satin formula -- very opaque, yet creamy and not too drying. The colour is a warm beigey-nude colour that can look a little too orange on some skintones. When swatched on the back of the hand, it almost seems like it has a very faint violet/purple duochrome thing going on with it.
Dupes would be fleshpot (more cool) and creme d'nude (more shiny/moist)... I think the match would be pretty exact if one were to mix fleshpot with peachstock (pro colour) and voila -- a satiny concoction of Revlon's Nude Attitude a la MAC.
This colour would work with more neutral to warm skintoned ladies -- if you're cool, then stray away or at least use sparingly (with a gloss).
This looks great under any gloss, bringing out the truer colour of them -- and pairs nicely with dramatic smokey eyes (as with a lot of nude lipsticks).
The packaging is cute and I like that the top is clear so that you can look inside and see the colour/product -- even though I still store it turned over (I prefer to see the label)...
I got this on sale at SDM (8.99) and find it a little pricey... I believe the regular price is 11.99CAD...
Overall, I DO like the lipstick -- its colour... the formula and packaging... but it's a fairly dupable shade in my opinion.

Quick Review: Style Warriors Collection

I was really proud of myself in the sense that I didn't go apesh*t over this collection. I was never really interested in the first place (I don't particular care for the packaging either) except for the lustre drops (a new product)... but after seeing Temptalia's swatches... I really wanted to check out Brave New Bronze lipstick -- I'm glad I did... it's a really pretty nude that is more on the pink side... I am trying really hard not to run out and buy a back-up as I've been doing that pretty often (well only for lollipop loving and lavendar whip... but I don't want to get into the habit)...
I never have a REAL reason to why I get nailpolishes other than the fact that I like the colours -- I haven't worn Mercenary yet, but Violet Fire is gorgeous with a great formula that DOESN'T STREAK!
The Lustre Drop (Sun Rush) I think is kinda neat and I might pick up the other two... I'm still thinking about it... I wore it out last night and I really liked the glow it gave me (but it's nothing that a regular highlighter can't do)....
** As for the Refined MSF (Sugarsweet collection)... it's been calling my name for a while now and like Perfect Topping MSF -- I caved =P
Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the collection... and glad I only picked up a few items (compared to my other hauls)... I'm looking forward to the upcoming collection with the mineralized items (I think it's called Colour Craft)... as well as the Euristocrats II collection ^^

PS: I didn't/won't be doing a haul for my L'Oreal Warehouse sale just because I didn't get anything for myself at all (except for a few Juicy Tubes) -- so nothing special =) PLUS -- I picked up a few items specifically to giveaway to you guys, so don't want to spoil the surprise =)

10 Favourite Lip Products

Lollipop Loving
Clean mid-tone coral with subtle green with gold iridescence (Glaze)
I've made it no secret that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this lipstick… this is my HG everyday lipstick -- it's so very unique and pretty and just gives my whole face a glow. The formula is a little drying though, so I always have a thin layer of balm underneath. I love it SO much that on top of the one I originally purchased, I also got two back-ups.

Love Nectar Lustreglass
Ultra-soft apricot with pearl
I got this because it's a 'dupe' of Bare Necessity, but with a pink pearly sheen rather than pink sparkles -- it has the same apricot base. It became one of my most favourite glosses to wear. The lustreglass formula is a lot smoother and less stickier than the lipglass formula, and since it's a dupe of Bare Necessity (my favourite dazzleglass), it was a no-brainer.

Viva Glam V
Neutral pink with pearl (Lustre)
This was one of my first MAC lipsticks. I really like it because it's a really pretty neutral shade that can be worn daily… this was my HG until Lollipop Loving came along =P

Bare Necessity
Caramel apricot with red and gold pearl
My absolute favourite Dazzleglass shade… it's neutral and sooooo pretty.

Crème d'Nude
Pale muted peach beige (Cremesheen)
Are we seeing the trend here? I really really like nude/natural shades =P The cremesheen formula is to die for and I'm really glad that MAC made a bunch of shades and this formula permanent. Crème d'Nude is my perfect concealer-nude shade for a super dramatic smokey eye. I even got my best friend hooked on it.

Big Baby Plushglass
Soft peach with pink and white pearl
I love this shade -- it's actually fairly similar to Love Nectar but more on the peachy side. The plushglass formula is also very smooth and non-sticky. This is supposed to be a plumping formula but not a good one… it does give your lips a buzzing/cooling sensation, but not like some that stings your lips like mad (Too Faced Lip Injection)

Lavendar Whip
Light cool lavender (Cremesheen)
Another great cremesheen shade, unfortunately it's limited edition. It was sold out on the mac website for a while, but they restocked it -- so if you haven't picked up this shade yet I highly suggest you do. It's just so unique and pretty… I sometimes pair it with crème d'nude to tone down the lavendar/give the nude some colour

Biotherm Glossy Milky #419
This is a dupe of the cremesheen glass in boy bait. It's a very milky, non-shimmery gloss that is super smooth, non-sticky and very very very natural for everyday wear

Smashbox O-Gloss
This gloss is awesome. It's clear in the tube and super smooth and non sticky (I hate sticky glosses)…. When applied, it changes colours to your "perfect" lip-stained shade. The gloss itself doesn't last too long, but the stain it leaves behind does.. So if you reapply, the pink gets more and more intense...

Saplicious Lip Gelee
Tangerine-taupe with low level pearl
Another smooth, non-sticky gloss that doesn't have very much pigmentation. It's very sheer but moisturizing with just enough tint of colour that makes it wearable any time of the day.

Happy May 2-4

For those who aren't from Canada May 2-4 is our Victoria Day long weekend, which is now coming to an end.
I hope you guys had a good one, because mine was GREAT!
I am normally the type who would rather stay home and watch TV than go out anywhere... this was probably one of the only long-weekends, where I have been out every night!
So I apologize for the lack of posts as I've had a pretty eventful weekend... and now must catch up with my school work... =(
I have a few more giveaways coming up in the near future, so keep coming back to check!

10 Favourite Blushes

(in no particular order)

MAC Sunbasque
Several years ago, I had my makeup done at MAC for two separate occasions. Both occasions, they used this blush on me without my asking. I got this years later because I always remembered that it was used on me by two separate MAs… and thought "maybe this shade really works for me" -- even though I actually don't use this nearly enough as I should… it really is a very nice natural shade that can double as a light bronzer.

MAC Hot Planet
My current fave. I love this blush, it gives me such a nice glow that really brightens up my face. It has the perfect combination for blush and highlight.

MAC Azalea
This is a pro shade and is not for the faint of heart. Azalea is a SUPER intense hot pink with a strong blue base. It's incredibly pigmented and even a dab sometimes can be too much. This shade is just SO HOT!

MAC Emote
This is a discontinued shade that is quite popular among the asian community because it's a good contour shade. Its matte formula and light brown colour doesn't really make for a pretty cheek colour, but definitely works as a subtle contour for sure.

MAC Pinch Me
One of the first blushers I got from MAC, it's a nice peachy shade that is very wearable.

Super Orgasm
This one received a lot of criticism due to the chunky glitters in it. The thing is, when you tap the brush, 99% of the glitter falls off BECAUSE they are so big and heavy… I don't understand why NARS put them in their in the first place, but that's besides the point. Without the glitter, Super Orgasm is a really pretty peachy apricot colour that gives a really fresh glow, like you just came in from the cold.

EDM Apple
This shade is subtle and pretty. A peachy-baby pink (I'm really bad with describing colours)… it gives just enough glow to your cheeks that is super natural and not shimmery.

EDM Salon Fun
This is a bright and fun berry colour that doesn't give the most natural look but gives a really fun and cheerful colour to your cheeks. It looked nice in the winters when my skin was really pale and this colour really popped against my skin… I have yet to try it for the summer… it also makes a great eye shadow shade!

Cameo Cosmetics (no name)
This was the first blush I ever got… well I didn't get it… I think my mom brought it back for me from Hong Kong several years ago (and yes I still have it)… I really love it.. It's dark and intense.. So just a dab is enough to give a bronzey glow. It's almost a wine colour… I don’t know what "Cameo Cosmetics" is… and upon googling didn't get me much results either… when I dropped and broke it into little pieces I was crushed (no pun intended)… but I saved it just in case… and I'm glad I did, because thanks to youtube, I learned how to re-press it and it's as good as new (almost)!

MAC Breezy
Omg I only discovered this shade like a month ago and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it… I love the finish of sheertone shimmers as there is a light sheen that isn't too over the top. The shade of breezy is berry-ish with this really pretty pearlescent sheen… (again… my colour description is lacking lol)… but it's just BEAUTIFUL!!!

Pink Colour Circle Lenses

EXCITING NEWS!!!

So those of you who follow me regularly would know that I purchased a pair of circle lenses from Pacific Mall last week. Well, after some research I found myself at the e-store and supplier of the lenses to the Pmall locations.
The e-store prices were the same as the prices IN-STORE which is:
$45/pair for 1 year lenses
$25/pair for 6 months lenses

BUT… the e-store led me to a facebook group that also sold the same lenses at a cheaper price. Let me tell you that everyone who is interested in purchasing and/or trying circle lenses that you NEED to bookmark and join the facebook group!!!
I discovered that for those who join the "circle lens facebook group" you get a special discount where the 1-year lenses cost ~$30-38 (instead of $45).
Sometimes it offers promotions such as "Buy 2 get 1 pair free" -- which is the promotion I took advantage of.
For every purchase, you receive a contact lens case to store your lenses in (or $1 for every additional case).
All of the blogstores I've encountered that offer circle lenses only take batch orders. What batch orders are is that they will not ship your order until they have filled a certain quota of orders. For example: the blogstore would only ship your order when they have reached 100 orders of lenses, which they will order from their supplier. This process is very tedious and inconvenient and the buyer would have to be extremely patient!
Pink Colour almost always have stock ready and ship within 1-2 business days….(and depending on your location you would most likely received within the week -- I got mine in TWO DAYS!!!)… AND AND AND… get this… ready??

SHIPPING IS FREE WORLDWIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another great thing about Pink Colour is that they carry 9 different reputable brands including the popular GEO and E.O.S. and are available in prescription (which take a little while longer to ship).

I was so impressed with everything that Pink Colour had to offer compared to other Circle Lens e-stores that I contacted the seller (who is based in the GTA) immediately and got you guys a discount code =)
(on top of the exclusive facebook group discount) .

All prices are in Canadian Dollars … so it's even "cheaper" for all of you who are interested from the States!

In my opinion, this seller is the cheapest you'll find anywhere on the internet!

When you order just type in "Sanderlees" in the message box when checking out the pink colour site, or anywhere on the online order form from the facebook group and receive 5% off your entire purchase!

Be sure to tell me which lenses you guys pick up!!!

Why the Lack of Videos

So I started doing videos about a year ago when I had finished my final exams at the beginning of summer 2008… but my video making stalled once school started again in the fall.
I've always had a personal blog… I enjoying expressing myself in written words and so creating a blogspot account to reach out to the make-up community was something that I knew I could do and keep up - since I can write a blog in class, but not record a video =P

There are so many great gurus on YT already, that I feel silly whenever I make a video, because I hate to feel like I'm 'copying' anyone with their videos and it's just so hard thinking of new video ideas to make…
Oh oh! And I HATE how I look/sound in a video! I swear WHILE I'm filming one, I feel or think I'm being me and being very natural… but when I am editing the video…. I realize how nervous/weird/FAKE and NOT ME I am in those videos… omfg! Lol
It's not easy talking to yourself to a camera =P
Also, I avoid making tutorials because:
  • As I've stated when I initially started video posting: there are so many great gurus out there that do such great and amazing tutorials -- I don't see the point of me adding to them
  • The 10min time limit is just not realistic for me. I take 45min to an hour to do my own make-up because although I'm not perfect by all means, I like to make it as perfect or to MY standards as much as possible.. 10 min to do a make-up tutorial will not allow me to create something that I would be truly satisfied with -- I've actually deleted the majority of my old tutorials because when I looked back at them I thought "omg.. What was I thinking???"

Finally, there are virtually NO haters or mean comments when it comes to blogging versus YouTube… I mean, I can handle the YouTube haters… but it's nice not to have to deal with them at all here =)
Constructive criticism is not the same as being a hater… if you don't like anything about my reviews/hauls/posts… by all means leave a comment and let me know -- I want to improve!

MAC Pro-pan and Palette

The MAC website now offers all of their empty palettes (quad/15-pan/blush) for sale on their regular site. It is no longer limited to in-store purchase nor would you need to call the pro number. The pro-pan eyeshadows and blushes are now also available to be purchased from the regular website!
So convenient!

Yippee!

Review: Love & Friendship

Before it even hit stores, this MAC nail polish from the A Rose Romance collection was at the top of my to-buy list. When I got it I was a little disappointed as it wasn't as "spring" as I would have liked it to be. I described it as a dirty lavendar... kind of dull. When I checked back with the MAC description, that was exactly how it was described as -- "dirty lavendar".
I still feel this is more of a transition shade into fall -- not spring.
What I DO like about this polish is the formula. I expected it to be super super streaky and requiring 3 coats, much like the two cream polishes (peppermint patti and seasonal peach) from the Sugarsweet collection. To my surprise, this bottle was not streaky at all. In fact, one coat was good enough albeit not opaque enough. To get the full colour payoff that matches what you see in the bottle, two coats was sufficient. Despite it being a cream finish/formula, I was extremely pleased with its application.

ZannClip

So I was net-browsing one day (procrastinating no doubt) for new products to try and came across the ZannClip . At first it looked like any other hair clip with a funky design, so I was going to pass but decided to see if there were any reviews on YouTube. What I found weren't reviews but how-to videos of how to use the Zann Clip, uploaded by the company.
This lone hair clip is super versatile… but what sold me was that it can hold your hair in a pony tail without leaving that ugly indentation in your hair.
I never tie my hair up. EVER. So this is a big deal for me, because the Zann Clip makes it so easy (and no ugly dent/bump!!) and what I love most about it is that it's not limited to holding your hair up in a ponytail. You can wear your hair in a messy bun or messy updo, and a single Zann Clip will hold your hair up and will never come loose.

The ZannClip comes in 3 sizes (small, medium and large) as well as in different finishes and colours! So much choice!
You can choose from 24K Gold Plated or Platinum Plated clips available in all 3 sizes. Or you can choose colour-coated clips in an array of colours.
The site also carries Plated bobby pins (small and medium) as well as pretty beaded barrettes.

Definitely head on over to the site since it's having a promotion where you receive 20% off of your purchase of 3 items -- So make sure you check it out!

Perfect Style

MAC put together a GREAT full-sized brush set that I don't believe they've done before. These are NOT short-handled SE brushes.
The brushes include the infamous 187, the 168 large contour brush, the 222 which is a great blending brush and the small angled 263.
For those of you just starting out your collection on MAC brushes, this is a GREAT buy at $150CAD which includes a cute little carrying case.
If you were to purchase each brush individually, your total would come to: $143.5 +tax (not including the bag)!!!

Snatch one up before they're gone!!

Contest/Suggestions

I wanted to thank everyone who participated in the Blog Contest and leaving your great suggestions for the blog. Some I tried to change right away -- such as the background/layout of the blog. I'm a real dunce when it comes to anything technology, however, and I almost deleted this entire blog by accident while trying to add a new layout... so I decided to just scrap it =P
Here are the suggestions I will try my best to implement and incorporate to this blog:
  • Monthly Favourites
  • Reviews
  • Product of the Week
  • Sales announcements
  • Series Reviews (ie. different mascaras)
  • Quick tips
  • Dupe possibilities

Some stuff I thought of myself

  • Paula Begoun reviews
  • periodical giveaways (not contests)

Just because the contest is over, doesn't mean you have to stop leaving me suggestions!

Contest Winner

Happy Monday everyone!

I have chosen the winner of the Blog Contest by generating a number through random.org...
and the winner is:
xMaterialGirlsx

Congratulations!! Please email me your mailing info =)
As for the Recreate a MAC facechart contest, I'm still waiting on the result from Buzzfuzzbunny -- and we'll prob film it and upload it sometime next week =)

Cheers!

Writer's Block

My weekend has been busy... so rather than posting nothing at all.. here's the "FOTD" that I did for a casual night out with my friends... it's not really "FOTD" since all I have on is foundation (studio tech NC30), Blush (Hot Planet), Quite Natural p/p on brows, lashes (ardell) and black liner (blacktrack):

Saturday, May 02, 2009

FOTD

*All MAC products unless otherwise specified

Face:
Oil Control Lotion
Skin Refined Zone
QUO Perfect Primer
Studio Sculpt Foundation NC25/NC30
MSF N in medium plus

Cheeks:
Emote
Just a Pinch Gel blush
Perfect Topping MSF

Lips:
Lollipop Loving

Eyes:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Bio Green e/s
Humid e/s
Sumptuous Olive e/s
Handwritten e/s
Type Blanc e/s
Quite Natural paint pot for brows
Dipdown fluidline
Ardell Demi Wispies

Here's the kicker: I didn't want to clean brushes so thought I'd be lazy and use my ring finger to do my eye make up... I did my entire eye look (except the bottom lash line) with my ring finger -- the entire application and blending... which I think I did pretty well with, if I must say so myself... =P

Why I Don't Haul Drugstore Products Anymore

This goes hand in hand with my blog about why I buy MAC products. I know a lot of my readers request that I write reviews on drugstore products, but other than mascaras, I have actually avoided drugstore products in general. I find that I have spent WAY TOO MUCH money on drugstore products that end up sitting in my drawers because their performance was less than subpar. Then I realized that the amount I spent on those products, I could've gotten something from MAC that I know that I would give more of my attention to. Or that the amount I spent on trying to find a good dupe to a certain MAC product, I could've used that money and just gotten the ACTUAL product. I'm not saying there doesn't exist superior drugstore products -- Quo makes some GREAT quality brushes and (some) L'oreal HIP shadows are really nice (another product trying to be MAC dupes -- "HIP" : another three-letter line… coincidence?) and of course NYX products -- which has a pretty impressive line in general…
but yes… that's why I don't really haul drugstore products anymore -- so I apologize to those who wanted me to haul/review them...
I'm not swearing them off forever -- but I probably won't be making any drugstore purchases unless something REALLY appeals to me.
With that said, I do have reviews coming up on the Revlon Matte Lipsticks in Nude Attitude and Pink Pout.
